Chittagong, 19 July 2011: New Western Marine Ship Builders Ltd, a leading shipyard in the country will build 4 nos. of oil tankers for Nurjahan Group each having capacity of 1350 dwt (dead weight tonnage) at a cost of BDT 50 crore. These tankers will ensure fast transportation of edible oil within the nation.
Mr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain, MD of New Western Marine Shipbuilder Ltd and Mr. Zahir Ahammed, MD of Nurjahan Group signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations yesterday, 18 July 2011 at a hotel in the port city.
Both the organizations hope that commissioning of theses oil tankers will help in keeping food price consistent through rapid supply of edible oil throughout the nation.
The vessels are designed with a length of 63.80m, 10.10m breadth, 5.7m depth approved by class Germanischer Lloyd. The double hull tankers has been designed as per latest policy on MARPOL (marine pollution) made by IMO. They will comply highest safety & environmental measures. Western Marine expects to deliver the vessels within 17 months after initiation of project work.
The Chairman of the yard Mr. Saiful Islam said that Western Marine built tankers are of highest standard & are 100% class approved, today we do not need to import tankers from abroad anymore by spending our hard earned foreign currency. MD Mr. Hossain said that this agreement is an opportunity for the organization to contribute in the national economy by carrying edible oil within the country. The MD of Nurjahan Group has also expressed his satisfaction for the contract signed.
