PPP Agreement Signing between Western Marine Shipyard Ltd. & German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) for developing ‘WMS Healthy Worker & Community Care

Chittagong, 30 June, 2009: Western Marine Shipyard Limited (WMShL) & German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) has signed a PPP agreement [public private partnership] for the purpose of developing “WMS Healthy Worker & Community Care Services”. This joint project shall not only ensure the health safety of the Western Marine personnel approx 10,000 population in Kolagaon, but also help in developing health consciousness in the local community of Kolagaon.

The agreement was signed in the head office of Western Marine at Agrabad, Chittagong by the Managing Director of Western Marine Shipyard, Mr. Sakhawat Hossain & Dr. Andrea Knigge from GTZ side as its Chief Technical Advisor of WMShL. Today Bangladesh & German development cooperation is focused on the three priority areas of healthcare, energy & good governance and during negotiation (few years ago) Govt. of German pledged 10 million Euros for technical cooperation in these three areas. GTZ have been supporting the reform of Bangladesh health sector through the Health, Nutrition, and Population Sector Program and will remain active in the area of HIV/AIDS.

Both the organizations are hoping that this socio-economic development will prove to be very successful in providing quality health care service to the local community of Kolagaon. A Health Care Centre shall be built inside the premises of Western Marine Shipyard, Kolagaon as a component of this welfare scheme as well as discharging CSR (corporate social responsibility).
