Sr. Vice President of World Bank pays visit to Western Marine Shipyard

The Sr. Vice President (SVP) of the World Bank Mr. Kyle Peters has paid a goodwill visit to the country’s leading shipyard, Western Marine Shipyard Limited on the 29th of October 2015.

Mr. Peters was on a 2 days tour to Bangladesh since 28th October 2015 and on the 29th he visited Chittagong to witness the industrial development in the port city.

Mr. Peters was very impressed to see the shipbuilding capacity of Bangladesh & he highly admired Western Marine Shipyard’s activity knowing the shipyard has exported their products in many European countries including Germany & Denmark.

At present the shipbuilding industry is going through a financial crunch for the high cost of fund in the country whereas the governments in S.Korea & China are cutting on interest rate to support their heavy industries.

As such the SVP has assured to support shipbuilding sector of Bangladesh through provision of low cost fund to uplift the industry for its huge contribution to the economy through mass employment, foreign currency earning & development of backward linkage industries.

The SVP Mr. Kyle Peters has also witnessed the training facility at Western Marine Shipyard & assured that World Bank will do its best for skill development in the country through training on different skills for industrial enhancement in the country.
